It is an honour to welcome you to the fourth edition of the American School of Dubai Model United Nations conference. First and foremost, congratulations on your appointment to the Council. As the prime executive organ of the United Nations, the Security Council is entrusted with the maintenance of international peace and security. As such, delegates are entrusted with a great deal of responsibility. This year, the Council’s role is unique in that we will focus on past issues which have been instrumental in developing our current international climate.
This year’s conference theme, Combatting Crises Through the Unconventional, serves as the cornerstone of the Council’s topics. As our knowledge of previous issues increases and our frameworks for addressing them prove unsuccessful, it important to develop new solutions. As delegates in the Historical Security Council, you have been tasked with developing a framework to address the aftermath of 9/11 along with defining and addressing the persecution of Bosnian groups by Serbian Forces. Delegates of the Historical Security Council are entrusted with the unique opportunity to participate at the highest level of MUN debate. With this position of high esteem comes a commitment to diligent research, confident articulation, and active participation. As the executives of the Historical Security Council, we look forward to hearing your countries’ informed positions and reading your well-crafted resolutions. We wish you the best of luck as you embark on your research, and look forward to working with you throughout the conference.
Best Regards, The Historical Security Council Executive Team
