On behalf of the GA executive team, we welcome you to the first annual ASDMUN conference. The General Assembly is the largest, most unique forum, serving as the most widely representative organ of the United Nations. The main mission of the General Assembly is to preserve international peace and security. In order to achieve this, we plan to discuss issues ranging from political and economic to humanitarian affairs. Our goal in the General Assembly is to give delegates the opportunity to debate pressing global issues, and gain insight and knowledge on these complex problems.
The theme of the ASDMUN 2016 conference is “Finding a Home,” a statement of great relevance in today’s world as we face many local, regional, and international conflicts that plague people around the world. This year, the GA will be debating issues including youth exploitation in South America by drug cartels, post-conflict disarmament in Egypt, and providing refugees with transport out of conflict zones in the Middle East. Given the variety of these topics, we expect that every delegate will have the opportunity get involved in debate.
ASDMUN’s theme of Finding a Home stresses values such as compassion, global responsibility and empathy. We hope that all delegates in the General Assembly arrive at the conference with these values in mind. The aim of Model United Nations is to promote global awareness and understanding through effective debate. Gaining such an understanding is impossible without sufficient effort from the delegates, and in this vein, we hope that you prepare adequately to ensure that we are able to have efficient and fruitful debate. We are incredibly excited to meet and interact with you, and it is our utmost belief that ASDMUN 2016 will be a rewarding conference.
Regards,
General Assembly Executive Team
