On behalf of the ECOSOC executive team, we would like to welcome you to a committee in which debate and critical thinking will manifest focused discussions centered on the ASDMUN 2016 theme, “Finding a Home.” The Economic and Social Council is one of the six crucial organs of the United Nations, and since its formation in 1945, has functioned as the central programme for the promotion and implementation of sustained development worldwide.
This year, delegates in the ECOSOC will be tackling a broad range of socio-economic issues that include government responsibility in improving the social status of Syrian refugees in Europe, increasing the availability of clean water and sanitation in Eastern Africa, and the establishment of economic incentives to preserve forests in poverty-stricken nations.
All delegates must challenge each other to resolve these issues whilst acting in the roles of their delegations. We hope delegates will come prepared through thorough research and exploration, as our collective success is a reflection of how prepared we are as a group.
The world has undoubtedly transformed into a rapidly changing environment. In our quest to prosper and excel as passionate learners, it is absolutely imperative that we are conscious and well informed of the pressing global issues that surround us. The ECOSOC team believes that through the well-informed discussions we know will take place within our committee, each and every one of us will be exposed to a degree of innovation that will serve as a platform for our social and intellectual abilities.
We look forward to welcoming you in March.
Regards,
Economic and Social Council Executive Team
