Combatting Crises Through the Unconventional April 25-27, 2019
The American School of Dubai Model United Nations team is happy to announce that the theme for our fourth annual conference is 'Combatting Crises Through The Unconventional'. This theme continues in the ASDMUN tradition of challenging delegates to find innovative solutions to the world's most pressing issues. Our three previous conferences centred around the themes 'Innovation in a rapidly changing world', 'Restoring Peace', and 'Finding a home'. Participating in ASDMUN provides students with the opportunity to explore diplomacy and international relations against the backdrop of one of the world's most rapidly developing cities. Visit the leadership page to find more information about the conference, and the registration page for registration forms and Student Officer applications.
On the behalf of the ASDMUN team, it is my honour to formally welcome you to the fourth annual ASDMUN conference. ASDMUN IV will be held at the American School of Dubai’s Al Barsha campus between the 25th and 27th of April 2019. Dubai is one of the fastest growing cities in the world and provides the ideal backdrop for a weekend of intense debate, conflict resolution, and planning for the future.
The three previous ASDMUN conferences have provided the opportunity for both experienced and inexperienced delegates to practice and realize the value of diplomacy, leadership, and conflict resolution. I hope that this year, we can continue this legacy through the theme ‘Combatting Crises with the Unconventional’. This theme challenges delegates to be as creative as possible when trying to find viable solutions to the numerous crises around the world. ‘The Unconventional’ is the future of diplomacy. As our world rapidly evolves, we have to evolve with it and expand our horizons in order to maintain peace and prosperity. We hope to make a move towards the future at ASDMUN IV.
The last three conferences have allowed students from a variety of schools to come together and learn from each other in their endeavors to find solutions to the world’s most pressing problems. This year we are happy to announce the addition of the Historical Security Council (HSC) which will provide the opportunity for delegates to explore Security Council Issues from the past through the lens of the present. Overall, there will be eight forums available for participation at ASDMUN IV: the Security Council (SC), Historical Security Council (HSC), General Assembly (GA), Human Rights Commission (HRC), Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), Environment Commission (EC), Arab Council (AC), and International Court of Justice (ICJ). There will be opportunities open for student participation as delegates and student officers in all of these committees. I hope that ASDMUN IV will serve as an opportunity for all of you to engage in a weekend of stimulating and intellectual debate whilst exploring one of the world’s most forward thinking cities. Model United Nations is not just about what we learn in a weekend, but how that weekend affects us for the rest of our lives and I hope that every delegate and student officer that participates in ASDMUN will leave as a more globally aware citizen, inspired to make a change in the world.
If you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to the ASDMUN secretariat at firstname.lastname@example.org. I look forward to welcoming all of you to our campus and conference in the spring!
